Child custody and divorce are prime topics during month of March

March is a busy month for many Michigan families. In addition to the many activities that each family member is involved in, March is also one of the busiest months for divorce filings. Some couples have battled through the holiday season and have finally decided that things will just not work out. For many, decisions regarding property division, child support and child custody are the only items left in the relationship.

Children are a primary consideration in most divorces. Their happiness, well-being and security are essential. One way in which parents make sure that the children are provided with a sense of stability is by jointly breaking the news of the impending divorce to them. Part of this discussion should be the reassurance that they are still a part of a family and that both parents love them.

In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, it may also be a good idea to go ahead and put temporary child support and child custody orders into place. This will offer the children stability and ensure that their needs are met. Furthermore, such a plan will specify when each parent will have the opportunity to spend time with the children.

The decision to end a marriage is never an easy one to make. However, sometimes it is the best decision for all involved. When Michigan families decide that it is the appropriate option, it is time to take the necessary steps to make sure that all issues, including child support and child custody are addressed. Experienced legal counsel can assist with this endeavor.
